The law of inertia is nothing more than a variant on the law of preservation of energy: the kinetic energy of an object remains the same until some of it is transferred to something else.

Ironic that for something so simple, scientists would seek for solutions in esoteric quantum mechanics, such as stochastic electrodynamics.
