Ego Disintegration As Defense Mechanism
Perhaps ego disintegration in schizophrenia may be triggered partly as a psychological defense mechanism against stress on the ego, as the ego will only be stressed and thereby stress the mind as long as it is there, and knowing this, the mind can turn itself against the ego and cause it to disintegrate.
